Day 4 B Day (Wednesday 9.1.10)

Objective: To begin to study poetry.

Class Activities
• Warm Up: Fill out the “Pre-Poem Survey”
• Sentence Model 1 practice
• Read from Literature book: Pages 456-460
• Group Study:
     o Divide students into four (five if needed) separate groups.
     o Have group one pick 2 or 3 poems from Part 1 (page 461) to read together and discuss the meaning of what they read.
     o Have group two pick 2 or 3 poems from Part 2 (page 524) to read together and discuss.
     o Have group three pick 2 or 3 poems from Part 3 (page 581) to read together and discuss.
     o Have group four pick 2 or 3 poems from each section to read together and discuss.

• Handout # 2 from “Participating in the Poem”: What Does a Poem Do?
